September 29th 2026 is a big date for me as it marks exactly 40 years since I self-identified as a professional photographer and proclaimed as much to the Inland Revenue.

I wish I could say that there had been a grand career plan from the start but it really all came down to boundless enthusiasm, blind luck and the belief that I knew a good picture when I saw one.

I've been lucky enough to meet many of my heros & have access to places denied most people but the abiding memories are mostly of the friends & colleagues I've met along the way.

Arnold Newman, the great environmental portrait photographer, said that professional photography is 1% talent and 99% moving furniture - I've been very fortunate to have some great people push those desks with me and I'll always be grateful.
